Locally Grown Learning

Locally Grown Learning

Teaching and learning at Union Colony Schools is rooted in the vibrant, diverse community of greater Greeley. We seek to grow active learners who blossom into the next generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers. As a tuition-free public charter school, we have the flexibility to adapt to the needs of our students to continually provide an education that is relevant and personalized.

Authentic & Relevant Learning

Meaningful learning begins with relationships built on trust and understanding. Whether your child joins us in Kindergarten or 9th grade, our teachers get to know the interests, strengths and areas of need for each student. We use this knowledge to offer personalized instruction that supports individual needs in math, reading and writing alongside rigorous Colorado standards based learning.

At the middle and high school level, students are challenged to think critically and apply new learning to real-world situations. Over the course of their education, students build toward Senior Seminar, a self-directed research project in which students research a community-based problem and attempt to solve it. This challenging project grows student agency, showcases learning and connects students to the broader community.

True Neighborhood Schools

Our small, safe Elementary (K-5) and Preparatory (6-12) campuses welcome students from Evans and Greeley. Transportation to and from school enables us to serve a vibrant and diverse community of students at both campuses.

Our elementary campus offers room to spread out on our spacious playgrounds and a chance to learn about the local Colorado eco-systems in our outdoor learning center and garden beds. A pumpkin patch and greenhouses are coming soon. Our 6th through 12th grade students benefit from the proximity to Aims Community College where high school students can take courses toward college credit. The connection to the local community deepens student learning and motivation.

Cooperative Spirit

As a charter school, we’ve set up our school so that the people who know our students the best have the power to make curricular and school climate decisions that positively impact our students: the teachers. We utilize a unique teacher-led organizational structure that enables teachers to advocate for their students and create a school environment that puts the best interest of students front and center in all we do.

This cooperative spirit extends beyond the 4 walls of our school. Our active Parent Teacher Organization contributes to our positive school culture through activities like our Fall Carnival and concession sales. From Kindergarten to high school graduation, our families keep our school communities thriving places everyone wants to be.
