Union Colony Schools serve K-12 students from the greater Greeley, Colorado community at our tuition-free public charter schools. All K-5 students on our Elementary campus and 6th-12th grade students on our Preparatory campus, receive personalized attention, caring teachers, and a high-quality academic environment. Here are 10 more reasons why children thrive at our community centered schools:
1. Building a Foundation for a Bright Future
From kindergarten through 12th grade, Union Colony students engage in foundational academics and character development aimed at growing the whole child. Our curriculum is authentic and relevant, supports the needs of all students, and meets or exceeds Colorado State Learning Standards.
2. Small School Personalization
In a sea of large schools, our intentionally small schools feel like a breath of fresh air. We ensure success through 1:1 attention from teachers, small class sizes, and extra support time tailored to individual math and reading needs. At Union Colony, everyone knows your name and cares about your success.
3. Arts are More than an Add-On
We believe arts are an essential part of growing the whole child. All K-5 students enjoy weekly music and art classes taught by certified, experienced teachers. At the Preparatory level, our vibrant arts program includes ceramics, painting, drawing, choir, and a successful competitive jazz band. The drama department also offers opportunities to participate in theater, both on stage and behind the scenes, in several productions throughout the year.
4. Physical Fitness & Competitive Athletics
Our physical education program at the K-5 level helps prepare students for a lifetime of fitness and movement with weekly classes. Students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to participate in girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls basketball at both the club and varsity level. Our competitive teams enjoy all the benefits of district competition with ample playing time thanks to our small size.
5. Support for All Learners
In addition to challenging, standards-based academic instruction, we offer enrichment and support for all types of learners. We get to know each student as an individual and nurture strengths and areas of improvement. All students at the elementary level receive What I Need (WIN) time tailored to their specific needs. Both campuses employ specialist teachers to support English language learners, 504s and IEPs.
6. Inspiring environments
Our K-5 campus recently completed construction on a brand new Outdoor Learning Center and well appointed 1500 sqft library. We also have plans in progress to add new greenhouses and garden beds to support hands-on science learning. The Preparatory campus includes art rooms, science laboratories, and a spacious gymnasium with plenty of room for our high school students to show their UC spirit during sporting events and assemblies.
7. Unique Teacher-Led Cooperative Charter
Our school organization is a bit different. We’ve put the power to make curricular and school climate decisions in the hands of teachers–those who spend the most time with students and personally know student strengths, skills and areas to improve. We believe this approach means we can keep the best interest of children at the center of our planning.
8. College & Career Pathways
Union Colony Preparatory School is situated across from Aims Community College (ACC), providing a convenient opportunity for all students to earn college credits while still in high school. Our concurrent enrollment program makes it possible for hard working students to earn an associate's degree from ACC without financial cost. We prepare students with a college or career preparatory education and support the transition from high school to the path that best suits their dreams.
9. After School Programs & Clubs
K-5 students enjoy clubs like Student Council and Battle of the Books, in addition to our after-school program partnership with ABC. Students enrolled in the program meet in the cafeteria from school's dismissal until 6:15 p.m. for a safe and social place to spend the afternoon. At the middle and high school level, our extracurricular programming offers something for everyone from Drama and Key Club, to National Honor Society, Student Council and Yearbook.
10. Community is Everything
As true neighborhood schools, we know our community is our greatest asset. We gratefully lean on our community to go the extra mile for our students: from an active Parent Teacher Organization to community events like our Fall Carnival, providing conference meals or even helping at sports concession stands, we are proud that our families contribute to the well-being of our school. Our community feels like family.
