Welcome to Union Colony Elementary School

As a charter school we have a degree of freedom in determining the educational process based on the needs of the students who attend UCES.  A key part of our founding was the belief that our trained teachers, who know their students, should be involved in a collaborative process that determines the culture, climate, and curriculum used at this school.  While basics remain the same, our student body brings unique challenges with their diverse language and cultural backgrounds.  Our faculty, working with administration, has worked hard to develop an educational approach focused on preparing our students to begin a journey of success in life. While we were founded to prepare students for success at our secondary campus across from Aim Community College, we believe that this preparation will serve the children of this community no matter where they continue their educational process.

Principal Perspectives - Dave Warner

Dear Timberwolf Families,

Spring has sprung!  March 20th was the official first day of spring, and with that comes a flurry of activities, events and deadlines for students and staff.  One of the biggest yearly events is the CMAS (Colorado Measurement of Academic Success) testing.  This testing is required for 3rd - 5th grade students in ELA & Math, and 5th grade Science.  CMAS testing at UCE will take place from April 10th - 20th.

Parents can do several things to improve test results.  Students who struggle most on testing days are the ones who do not get enough sleep or eat good breakfasts.  Setting consistent routines with reasonable bedtimes and nutritious breakfast are critical.  Parental support is also a big factor in student success.  Take time at night to ask your child about their testing experience.  Encourage your child to take their time on tests, and to use the strategies they have been taught.

Several big events will take place in May.  UCE will be hosting our first K-5 Campfire Sing-A-Long.  This will replace the K-2 & 3-5 combined spring concerts of the past.  Students are required to attend and we encourage families to join us in singing campfire songs, and celebrating our beautiful community, state and nation. The sing-a-long will take place in our back field just behind our gym.  We will have several small fire pits.  Families are encouraged to bring blankets & lawn chairs, as seating will not be provided.  We really want this to be a relaxing, fun experience for students and families.  Our PTO will have refreshments for sale during the concert.  More information will be sent out from school as the date draws nearer.

The 2023 Field Day will take place on May 16th.  Families are encouraged to attend.  Over the last several years, Field Day has been a huge event enjoyed by all.
