About UCS

Union Colony Schools began with the vision for teachers having significant input and oversight  of the educational experience of the students they teach.  Pat Gillam and a group of teachers gathered and worked to  create the first Union Colony Schools  charter in 1997.

College Preparatory Focus - Unique in the beginning and continuing through today is the provision of student opportunities that prepare them for College. As a college preparatory school Union Colony is located directly across the street from Aims Community College.  This location facilitates the opportunity for students 9th through 12th grade to take tuition free classes at Aims as part of their instruction.

Problem Solving - At the core of UC's instructional approach is the teaching of problem solving  that is focused on helping students use information they have learned or memorized to increase or build understanding and utilization.

Site Based Desision Making - Union Colony employs a site based  decision making model where the faculty at both schools are directly involved in the governance of their school.  Administrators, in collaboration  with the faculty, work to keep the focus and decisions on track in the day-to-day application of policy and decisions.

Student Accountability - All staff and faculty  work together to help students be accountable for decisions they make with the goal to help students own their choices.

Small School Environment - Our vision and direction exists within the desire to maintain a small school environment where students are known and valued as individuals.
