Structured & Joyful Middle School

Structured & Joyful Middle School
A Union Colony Preparatory School girls sports team gathers for a team photo. The students are cheering and celebrating.

On any given day, if you walk through Union Colony Preparatory School, you’ll hear the sounds of learning and joy in our halls and classrooms: spirited debates and discussions, laughter among friends, and conversations between students and teachers. You’ll see a community of teachers and learners engaged in active thinking, creating and doing. You’ll undoubtedly notice our structured and joyful middle school environment.

At Union Colony Schools (UCS), we believe that middle school is more than just a pitstop on the road to adulthood. We see our students thrive with meaningful learning, clear boundaries, exciting opportunities and the space to become the amazing individuals they are meant to be.

Small & Student-Centered

Our intentionally small school is the foundation for one-to-one connection and powerful student support. Students and teachers build trusted relationships that promote positive character and academic growth. We set high, but achievable, expectations for behavior, while also providing compassionate guidance when a misstep occurs.

Teachers and staff at UCS nurture open communication with families about student progress. Our top priority is communicating with parents about how their student is growing. UCS middle schoolers know they have multiple trusted and caring adults in their corner, cheering them on and guiding them when they need a hand.

Our academic and elective programs support students to find their passions, nurture their strengths and challenge them to try new things. We’re helping students find positive ways to express themselves and show the world just how great they are.

UC’s student-centered academic program ensures that students receive the instruction they need in core subject areas while also being introduced to abstract problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills. 6th and 7th grade students at UCS also enjoy our fine arts program that develops creativity and self-expression through pottery, drawing, choir and band.

Joyful Learning & Community

We enrich the middle school experience with opportunities for leadership and self-expression via clubs, art electives, and athletics. Student Council, Mock Trial and Middle School Youth for Christ are hugely popular activities for our 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

If sports are your middle schooler’s idea of fun, we offer girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and girls and boys soccer teams to develop competitive skills and teamwork. Students can also access other sports through their neighborhood schools, if they choose.

At UCS, we love growth, a-ha moments, joy in learning and when students hit goals they didn't know they could. Join our tuition-free public school and find out what our structured and joyful community can do for your middle schooler. Enrolling now for Fall 2023!
