Biography

About Tom Stokovaz

At Union Colony, as the IT director, I have only one job. It is to see that everyone has the technology they need to do their work, whether that is student, faculty, or staff. While technology is my skill and trade, my interaction with people is what makes me passionate about what I do.

My educational background is in communication and instruction outside public education. This allows me to bring to my work the experience and knowledge acquired in real world application. When I teach, I continually ask how what I do with students can be used in life experiences after graduation.

My mom was a school teacher and my dad came to America from Croatia via Ellis Island as a displaced person. His struggles as an immigrant and her work in education are a huge part of my story. I served as a missionary to Korea and love the interest in cultural learning and interaction that this provided. I am most comfortable with people from other cultures.

I enjoy camping, hiking, snowshoeing, tennis, and cycling. One summer I rode over four thousand miles biking to work and in every free moment I had. Outside of technology, I enjoy working with cardboard and hot melt glue to create large themed pieces for events.
