Weather Closures
Occasionally, the decision is made to close schools in District 6 because of severe winter weather. This decision could be made because of significant snowfall, dangerous road conditions, or extreme cold (-30 degrees air temperature or wild chill).
Deciding whether to close schools is always done with the safety of students, parents and staff in mind. District staff will do everything they can to make a decision as early as possible to allow parents to make alternative plans if schools are closed. At this time, the district does not use a "delayed start" option on severe weather days, so the decision will be whether schools should be "open" or "closed" for the day.
School days lost because of weather closures must be made up in order to meet state instructional time regulations.
If schools are to be closed, then that decision will be announced by these means:
- Closure announcements will be posted on the district's website (www.greeleyschools.org).
- Closure announcements will be added to the district's main telephone voice message, at 970-348-6000.
- Local and metro-Denver radio and television stations will be notified.
